Jim accepted the call to become the senior pastor of Pleasant Valley in November of 2018. Previously, Jim served as the pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, VA, and Cherokee Creek Baptist Church in Gaffney, SC. Jim is also a Chaplain in the SC Army National Guard having served continuously since 2003. Jim's greatest desire is to help people become disciples of Christ and to teach them to obey the commands of Christ.

Jim was born and raised in the Charlotte area (Indian Trail). He became a Christian at age 9 and accepted the call to ministry as a teenager. He obtained his undergraduate and Master of Divinity degrees from Gardner-Webb University. Jim and his wife, Jennifer, have been married since 2005 and they have one daughter, Bella Grace. In his free time, Jim enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, playing golf and watching sports.

Bryan Mitchell

Interim Worship Leader



Bryan has almost 40 years of ministry experience, first joining the worship team at age 16. He is passionate about worship and seeing others grow in Christ through the music ministry.

Bryan and his wife Shelly are both native Charlotteans. They have two adult daughters, Rebekah (& husband Landon) and Emily, and a teenage son, Benjamin. And, they will soon welcome their first grandchild!

Most of Bryan’s ministry has been leading worship, but he also has experience in choir, drama, theater, radio & television, youth & children’s ministry, leading senior adults and GreifShare, as well as teaching and preaching.

Bryan enjoys family time, target shooting, chess, trivia, and classic television.
